Bundled vs. BYOK AI
Two transparent methods to cover Large Language Model API execution costs.
When deploying an AI agent with AutomateIt, you have two options for how the underlying language model (Claude 3.5 Sonnet / GPT-4) API costs are covered.
Option 1: Bundled AI (Default)
Under the Bundled model, AutomateIt hosts the API keys and manages all token consumption. You do not need to sign up for OpenAI or Anthropic developer accounts.
- Pros: Out-of-the-box simplicity. One consolidated software invoice. We absorb the latency monitoring and server scaling fees.
- Cons: Subject to your subscription plan's monthly AI conversation limits (e.g. Starter tier includes 1,000 conversations/month).
Option 2: Bring Your Own Key (BYOK)
For high-volume teams or agencies, you can input your own developer API keys in the Settings → AI Provider tab.
- Supported Providers: Anthropic (Claude Console), OpenAI (Platform Console).
- Pros:
- No Conversation Limits: The AI conversations/month cap on your AutomateIt plan is waived.
- Direct Wholesale Pricing: You pay OpenAI or Anthropic directly for the tokens consumed, saving markup costs on high volume.
- Cons: You must maintain a billing balance on your OpenAI/Anthropic accounts. If your keys run out of funds, your WhatsApp chatbot will stop responding.
Choosing the Best Plan
For most SMBs, Bundled AI is the easiest route. We recommend switching to BYOK once:
- You exceed 20,000 conversations per month.
- You have custom enterprise agreements directly with Anthropic or OpenAI.
- You are an agency managing high-volume clients who pay their own API bills.
